The European leaders have forgotten the lessons of history, warned the Russian diplomat.
On Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Germany, France, and the United Kingdom appear to be seeking to provoke a war against Russia.

“The latest statements and actions from Berlin, Paris and London indicate that the current class of politicians who have come to power in these and other countries have forgotten the lessons of history. They have forgotten the conclusions that all of humanity has drawn,” he said during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, following the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
“The current European leadership is willing to rally Europe again for a non-hybrid war against Moscow,” Lavrov pointed out and dismissed European politicians’ claims of a Russian threat as “complete nonsense.”
Earlier this week, British Defense Secretary John Healey said the UK is prepared to send troops to Ukraine to support a potential ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv. Prime Minister Keir Starmer “has always made clear that he is willing to deploy troops to Ukraine to help reinforce a ceasefire,” Healey said.
He added that, if such a ceasefire is achieved, it would be possible to strengthen Ukraine in the future, with the goal of providing deterrence and defense capabilities to Kyiv—”which in the end is the best and ultimate guarantor against any future Russian aggression.”
On Wednesday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz declared that diplomatic options to resolve the conflict in Ukraine have been “exhausted.” He also reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to continued military support for Kyiv and to strengthening Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, while referring to the Russian government as a “criminal regime.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed that European politicians are using the supposed Russian threat “to keep people obedient and prevent protests that are inevitably being triggered by the deteriorating socioeconomic situation and stagnation in Europe.”
For decades, the U.S. and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization have mocked commitments not to expand the alliance toward Russia’s borders—a matter Moscow considers a red line for its national security.
